Woman strangled by live-in partner in Meerut
Meerut, Jan. 20 -- A 35-year-old woman was allegedly strangled by her live-in partner following a dispute in the K-Block area under the Medical police station limits in Meerut on Monday. The accused, identified as Vishu, fled the scene after the incident. Police have formed two teams to trace and arrest him.
According to the police, the deceased, Chitra, had been living in a rented house in K-Block with Vishu for the past five months. SP City Ayush Vikram Singh said that an argument broke out between the couple on Sunday night over an unspecified issue. The dispute escalated again on Monday morning, during which Vishu allegedly strangled Chitra to death.
The incident came to light when Chitra's two children - her 11-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter- returned home and found their mother lying motionless on the bed. The children told the police that Vishu had taken them to his friend's house in Golabadh two days earlier. On Monday morning, he brought them back and dropped them near Surajkund, from where they walked to their home in K-Block.
When the children found their mother lying unconscious, they tried to wake her but received no response. Alarmed, they called neighbours, who rushed to the house and later informed Chitra's sister in Delhi. The children also informed the landlady who immediately alerted the Medical police station.
On receiving the information, Dial 112 and the local police reached the spot. Chitra's body was found lying on the bed inside the room, with a sari tied around her neck. Preliminary observations suggested that she had been strangled using the sari. The police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination.
The police have seized Chitra's mobile phone as part of the investigation. Her family members reached the spot after being informed about the incident.
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh said that two police teams have been formed to arrest the accused. "The accused Vishu has been absconding since the incident. Efforts are on to trace him, and he will be arrested soon," he said....
