Woman stabs relative over jab on her weight
Haldwani, Aug. 25 -- A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in Haldwani, after she allegedly stabbed her sister-in-law during a verbal dispute that began over a taunt by the latter over her weight, police said on Sunday.
According to police, the victim, Pushpa Singh (40), was on a walk with two of her relatives on Friday evening when a quarrel broke out between her and one of them- Deepa Devi, her neighbour and sister-in-law. The spat escalated into a scuffle, during which Deepa allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Pushpa in the stomach. Deepa was arrested on Saturday night, police said.
Haldwani inspector Rajesh Kumar Yadav said, "On Saturday night, the victim's family lodged a complaint against Deepa Devi. Following this, a case was registered under Section 109 (attempted murder) and other relevant sections of the BNS, and the accused was taken into custody."
Immediately following the incident, Pushpa's relatives rushed her to Dr. Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment, police said, adding that her condition was reportedly critical.
As per the complaint filed by the victim's family, the dispute reportedly arose after Pushpa made fun of the accused by calling her "moti" (fat) a few days, which, at the time, did not elicit any reaction....
