Woman sets self, 2 minor daughters on fire in Jalaun
Kanpur, Nov. 18 -- Driven by marital discord, a woman allegedly set herself and her two minor daughters on fire in Dadhi village Konch, Jalaun on Monday morning.
The incident occurred just hours before the wedding festivities of the woman's brother-in-law were to begin.
The deceased have been identified as Aarti, 27, and her elder daughter, Pihu 7. The younger daughter, Drishti 1, is currently battling for her life and has been referred to Jhansi.
The shocking act took place at the home of Devendra, even as the family was preparing for the traditional 'Mandap' ceremony slated for Monday evening.
While Devendra and other male members of the family were out to buy groceries, Aarti locked herself and her two daughters inside a room and set herself on fire.
The blaze and smoke emanating from the house drew the attention of neighbours. They immediately broke down the door and found Aarti, Pihu, and Drishti severely burned. Police and an ambulance were immediately alerted.
Upon reaching the hospital, Aarti and Pihu were declared dead by the attending physicians. Drishti, after receiving initial treatment, was transferred to Jhansi Medical College due to the severity of her burns and remains in a critical condition.
Locals reported that the family had been having disputes for some time, suggesting that Aarti was under significant mental stress, which police believe led to her taking this drastic step.
Circle officer Konch, Parmeshwar Prasad said: "preliminary investigation suggests a family dispute is the primary cause of the suicide. Some evidence and statements have been collected from the house and will be included in the investigation. The forensic team has also been called for a scientific examination of the crime scene."...
