Meerut, Oct. 20 -- In a major revelation, Meerut police confirmed that a woman living in a relationship was poisoned to death by her lover in Pallavpuram area, five months ago. The case came to light after the viscera report confirmed poisoning as the cause of death. Acting on the report, Pallavpuram police arrested the accused, identified as Ashok Dharma, a resident of Daurli, on Sunday. Circle officer (CO) Daurala, Prakash Chandra Agarwal, said that both the accused Ashok Dharma and the deceased woman, Nikita, were neighbours in Daurli. During this period, Nikita gave birth to two children. On May 4, 2025, Nikita died under mysterious circumstances. Ashok claimed that she had suffered a heart attack, but police found the situation suspicious and preserved her viscera sample during the post-mortem examination. The viscera report, which arrived recently, revealed that Nikita had died due to consumption of a poisonous substance. Following this finding, police registered a murder case against Ashok Dharma based on a written complaint from Simran, Nikita's elder daughter from her first marriage. On Saturday, police arrested Ashok near his residence and produced him before the court, which sent him to judicial custody. Police officials said the motive behind the murder remains unclear and will be investigated further after taking the accused on remand....
