Woman killed with electric iron, husband arrested
PRAYAGRAJ, March 27 -- A domestic dispute escalated into a brutal killing in Chamanganj area on Wednesday, where a man allegedly murdered his 40-year-old wife by repeatedly striking her with an electric iron. Police reached the spot following the accused's own call to the control room, took him into custody, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. According to officials, Hemant Sharma, a native of Jaunpur and currently living in Chamanganj with his mother, Munni Devi, and sister, Gauri, runs a bag shop near the Jhunsi police booth. He had married Sweeta, daughter of Bashir Gasih of Dhariwal in Gurdaspur (Punjab), in 2021 through an online matrimonial platform. However, frequent disputes had strained the relationship since the beginning. Police said the couple had argued on Wednesday morning as well. When Hemant returned home in the evening, the quarrel intensified, during which he allegedly hit Sweeta multiple times on the head with an electric iron kept in the house, killing her on the spot.
Hemant reportedly left his mother and three-year-old daughter, Aster, at his shop before returning home and informing the police. SHO (Jhunsi police station) Mahesh Mishra confirmed that the accused is in custody and is being interrogated.
A medical store owner has been arrested on charges of repeatedly raping a woman constable posted at a local police station after allegedly deceiving her with false promises of marriage. According to the complaint, when she insisted that he honour his promise, the accused, along with his relatives, began harassing and pressuring her. Following her written complaint to the SP, a case has been registered against eight individuals, and the main accused has been taken into custody.
Police said Veer Bahadur, alias Sonu Yadav, a resident of Rastipur Ward in Raniganj Nagar Panchayat of Pratapgarh had a medical store near the police station. His frequent visits to the station brought him into close contact with the female constable posted there. It is alleged that on the assurance of marriage, Sonu Yadav sexually assaulted her multiple times.
However, when she asked him to marry her, he allegedly began avoiding her. After she approached SP, the Raniganj police registered an FIR naming Sonu Yadav, an unidentified associate, his mother, sister, maternal uncle among others....
