Haldwani, Feb. 13 -- A 66-year-old woman was killed in a tiger attack in the Lamachaur forest area under the Ramnagar division on Thursday morning, triggering panic among villagers and prompting intensified patrolling by forest officials. The deceased has been identified as Ganga Devi, a resident of Peepal Pokhra village in the Lamachaur area. Forest officials said the incident occurred when she had gone into the forest to collect fodder along with her daughter-in-law and a neighbour. According to officials, the three women had ventured about a kilometre inside the forest from the main road when a tiger attacked Ganga Devi and dragged her deep into the jungle. Her companions raised an alarm and tried to scare the animal away but it all went in vain. Ramnagar divisional forest officer (DFO) Dhruv Singh Martolia said: "We were informed on Thursday that a tiger had killed a woman in the Lamachaur jungle and dragged her into the forest.
