Woman killed, legs chopped off for silver anklets: Police
Bharatpur, Feb. 5 -- A 60-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants, who chopped off both her legs allegedly to loot her silver anklets in Sawai Madhopur district, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident took place near Kodyai village under Bonli police station limits on Tuesday at around 4pm when the victim, identified as Kamla Devi, a resident of the village, went to a nearby forest to graze her goats. Her son later found her body in the forest, with her throat also being slit.
Villagers gathered at the scene and later placed the body on the road in protest, blocking the Jastana bypass road.
Congress MLA from Bamanwas, Indira Meena, also joined the agitation. Indira Meena alleged that the woman was murdered and her legs cut off to loot her silver jewellery. "The incident took place around three kilometres from the victim's village and police are yet to identify the accused," she said.
Bonli police station in-charge Jitendra Singh said police received information that a woman who had gone to the forest with her goats was found murdered. "We reached the spot and shifted the body to the district hospital mortuary," he said.
Family members and villagers continued their protest till Wednesday afternoon, demanding compensation for the victim's family.
The victim's son, Hans Raj, lodged a complaint against unidentified persons. Police registered a case and said efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused.
"Protesters continued their dharma and refused post-mortem till late evening on Wednesday, while the police are trying to convince them," Jitendra Singh, Bonli police Station House Officer said....
