Woman jumps from Shastri Bridge, parents allege dowry death
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 24 -- A married woman, and a mother of two children, jumped into the Ganga on Thursday afternoon. The water police tried to search for the woman, but failed to locate her. Parents of the woman have submitted a written complaint with the Jhunsi police, alleging a dowry death.
According to the complaint filed by the woman's brother, his sister was married to a resident of Dubawal, Sarai Inayat, in 2019. It is alleged that since the marriage, her in-laws had been harassing and pressuring her to bring a dowry of Rs 10 lakh.
The body of a 14-year-old girl was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at her home in a village under the Charwa police station area of Kaushambi district late Wednesday night, police said. The girl, daughter of a retired police constable, was a class 8 student at a nearby junior high school. According to her family members, she had been quiet and withdrawn over the past few days, said police.
On Wednesday night, while the rest of the family was in the front part of the house, the girl allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling hook in her room. Shortly afterward, when family members went to check on her, they discovered her hanging and immediately notified the police.
Inspector Mahesh Singh, SHO of Charwa police station, stated that the body was taken into custody, sent for an autopsy, and that further investigation is currently underway.
The body of a six-year-old boy was found in a pond in Azhara village of Lalganj area in Pratapgarh district on Thursday evening. The family was preparing for a wedding procession scheduled for Friday.
According to reports, Kayum, a resident of Azhara village, was preparing for his sister's wedding when his six-year-old son, Rehan, went missing around 1 pm while playing near a roadside pond. Despite frantic searches by family and villagers, he could not be found. Later in the evening, around 5 pm, Rehan's body was found floating in the pond. Kayum alleged that his son was murdered and the body was thrown into the pond.
On receiving information, circle officer Ashutosh Mishra and station house officer of Lalganj police station Alok Kumar reached the spot with a police team and inspected the site.
SHO Kumar said the pond is beside the road near the house, and prima facie it appears that the child may have accidentally slipped and drowned.
A man alone at home in a Pratapgarh village shot himself in the chest on Thursday. Upon hearing the gunfire, his brother and cousin, who were nearby, rushed in and found him lying in a pool of blood. SHO of Leelapur police station Manoj Pandey reached the spot along CO Lalganj Ashutosh Mishra, ASP (West) Vrijanandan Rai and conducted preliminary investigations. Mishra said the man had returned from Delhi a month ago and worked as an electrician. The family is giving no reason for the suicide. Evidence from the site and mobile call details are being examined, and action will follow accordingly.
Two people were killed and one other was injured when their bike rammed into a truck parked near Rupapur on National Highway under Mirzamurad police station area of Varanasi. The deceased were identified as Shivam Gupta (22), a resident of Arjunpur, Mirzapur district, and Tipu Khan alias Sahil, a resident of Tarkapur. Prakash Kumar (24), a resident of Mirzapur, was seriously injured, said SO Mirzamurad police station area Pramod Pandey. The locals caught the truck driver and handed him over to the police. The bodies were sent for post mortem.
A painter from Pipalgaon died after getting electrocuted while working in a house. After his death, the landlord fled, leaving the body behind. Neighbours informed the young man's family about the accident when they spotted the body from their rooftops. Nikhil (18), resident of Pipalgaon, went to paint a newly constructed house in the Janjirabad neighbourhood of Pipalgaon on Wednesday. At around 4:30 pm, he came in contact with a live wire and got electrocuted....
