Woman found injured near rly track, family alleges attack
LUCKNOW, Jan. 4 -- A 29-year-old woman was found critically injured near a railway track in the Kakori area of Lucknow on New Year's Day, with her family alleging that she may have been pushed off the train, possibly in connection with a harassment case she had filed against a colleague last month.
The woman, a resident of Thakurganj in Lucknow, works as a supervisor with the child development and nutrition department and is posted in Hardoi district. The incident surfaced on Friday with the police registering a case.
According to a statement by the Lucknow police, the family told them that she left home on the morning of January 1 and boarded the Bareilly-Banaras Express from Alamnagar railway station at around 7.16 am to travel to Hardoi. After boarding the train, she spoke to her mother, family members said.
"Concern arose when the woman did not answer her phone around 10 am, the time she was expected to reach office. Suspecting something was wrong, family members used a mobile location-tracking application, which showed her last known location near the Rehmankheda railway line," the police statement added.
The family rushed to the area and informed the station master at the Rehmankheda railway crossing. At around 3 pm, a local goat herder spotted a woman lying beside the railway track, still alive, and alerted the station master, who immediately informed the family.
The injured woman was taken to the community health centre in Kakori and later referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre due to the severity of her injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment and is not in a condition to record her statement, police said.
Family members have alleged foul play and suspect that the woman was pushed off the train or assaulted.
"They have linked the incident to a sexual harassment case she had filed on December 19, 2025, against a clerk named Kamal, who works in the same office in Hardoi. The earlier case was registered at Kotwali Hardoi under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Based on a complaint by the victim's brother, Kakori police have registered a fresh FIR under Sections 61(2) and 109 of the BNS against Kamal Kumar," said deputy commissioner of police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava.
"The DCP has made two police teams to expedite the investigation. The spot has been inspected by the ACP Kakori and a forensic field unit. Police officials said all possible angles, including the family's allegations, are being examined and the case will be solved once the victim is able to give a statement," the Lucknow police statement read....
