Woman escapes after 44 days of dowry torture
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 12 -- A married woman from Lotiya Majra Dubra village under Manjhanpur Kotwali area was allegedly beaten and held hostage by her husband and in-laws for dowry, resulting in a fractured hand.
The victim, identified as Samla Devi, said her in-laws had been harassing her since marriage to bring money from her parents' house. On July 28, 2025, her husband Keshraj, brother-in-law Sukhram, sister-in-law Geeta Devi, mother-in-law Kalavati, and relative Jageshwar allegedly assaulted her, leaving her seriously injured.
She was then locked in a room for about 44 days, only taken out under supervision to use the washroom, and denied medical treatment or contact with her parents. On September 9, she managed to escape and reached SP Rajesh Kumar's office, narrating her ordeal.
Following her complaint, the SP ordered registration of a case at Manjhanpur police station and directed strict action against the accused. HTC...
