Woman duped of Rs 50L in fake petrol pump deal
LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- Cyber criminals allegedly conned a city-based businesswoman of more than Rs 50 lakh by using fake approval letters and a video call-based land verification in the name of an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) petrol pump dealership.
Station house officer (SHO) Brijesh Kumar Yadav of the Cyber Police Station said, "A case has been registered. We have frozen Rs 12 lakh from the chain of transactions and are working to trace the accused."
The victim, Vijayashri Rawat of Saketpuri in Sarojini Nagar, had applied online for an IOC dealership on August 6 this year.
After her registration transaction failed, she was contacted by men posing as ndian Oil Corporation officials. One identified himself as Anikesh Srivastava, a sales representative, and another as Varun Gupta, an assistant manager, the police said.
The accused allegedly sought documents on WhatsApp, conducted a Zoom 'survey' of her land, and later sent an approval letter from a fake ID, iocl@petrolpumpdealerchayan.net.in, designed to look authentic.
They demanded payments under various heads including licence fee, security, tank installation, and software charges.
"Initially, Rs 19,500 was sought in the name of dealership approval. When that bounced, bank details of private accounts were shared, and over the following days, Rs 50.78 lakh was siphoned off," the complainant told police.
The fraud surfaced when no dealership materialised and calls to the accused went unanswered....
