Woman duped after fraudsters threaten linking her with 'Delhi blast' case
Lucknow, Dec. 18 -- A woman living in the Alambagh area of Lucknow was allegedly cheated of Rs.50,000 after fraudsters threatened her by falsely linking her name to a Delhi bomb blast case, police said on Wednesday after the FIR was registered on Tuesday at Alambagh police station.
According to the complaint, the victim, Preeti Kumari, a resident of Alambagh, received a call from an unknown number on December 6 around 10 am.
The caller introduced himself as an official from Delhi and claimed that Preeti and her family members had been named in a Delhi bomb blast case. Preeti alleged that the caller told her that people arrested in the case had given evidence against her family.
To further intimidate her, the fraudster later made a video call from the same number and warned that a police team from Delhi would raid her house if she failed to cooperate. The caller allegedly demanded money, claiming it was required to "remove" her name from the case.
Fearing arrest and police action, Preeti transferred Rs.50,000 to a bank account provided by the fraudsters. She later realised that she had been cheated when the callers continued demanding more money, following which the fraud came to light. The victim subsequently lodged complaints at the cyber crime police station and Alambagh police station.
