LUCKNOW, July 10 -- Two unidentified men, posing as air conditioner servicemen, slit the throat of the wife of a senior government official and looted her gold jewellery before fleeing the scene in Lucknow's Indiranagar area, under the Ghazipur police station limits, on Wednesday. The victim, Shashi Pandey, sustained grievous injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. ACP, Ghazipur, Anindya Vikram Singh, said an FIR has been registered under relevant sections against the unidentified assailants and efforts are on to identify and arrest them. "CCTV footage is being scanned," he added. According to the Ghazipur police, the incident took place around 4:30 pm at the residence of Harish Pandey, an undersecretary in the department of science and technology. According to the family, the attackers arrived claiming they were there to service the air conditioner in response to a complaint. When Shashi informed them that no such complaint had been made and turned to shut the door, one of them forced his way in, grabbed her by the neck, and slammed her head against the wall. The attackers slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon and looted her gold chain and earrings. When she resisted, they allegedly tore her earlobes and stabbed her hand to remove her ring. The assailants fled immediately after. At the time, the victim's elder son Shreyansh, a BTech student at MNNIT Prayagraj, was at home for vacation and was having lunch with his younger brother, Yashu. Hearing the commotion, they rushed to help and called emergency services. The crime occurred just 100 metres from a local police outpost. Harish Pandey, the victim's husband, expressed anger over the lack of police presence and claimed the area is plagued by open drug and alcohol abuse. Police from Ghazipur (Indiranagar) station arrived at the scene, though it reportedly took nearly 30 minutes to locate the house after the 112 call, said the victim to media persons. According to the family, the incident followed incidents of the doorbell being rung for the last three days. No one was found when the door was opened. Due to St Dominic Savio College being nearby, the family thought that school kids were up to pranks....
