VARANASI, May 22 -- Two people, including a six-year-old girl, died after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in Sonbhadra district on Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed. In the first incident, Subhashi Devi,31,and a resident of Nadhira village under the Dudhi police station area, died after lightning struck her while she was at home. According to her family members, Subhashi had returned home after plucking tendu leaves and was sitting inside the house when a sudden lightning strike hit her. She collapsed and began writhing on the ground. Her family immediately rushed her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Muirpur, where doctors declared her dead. The hospital authorities informed the local police, who then reached the site, conducted a Panchnama (preliminary examination of the body), and sent it to CHC Dudhi for a post-mortem examination. Inspector-in-charge Kamlesh Pal, confirmed the incident and stated that further legal procedures are underway. In a separate incident in Kodri village, under the Hathinala police station area, a six-year-old girl also lost her life due to a lightning strike around the same time.
