MEERUT, May 16 -- A woman and her son were arrested for abduction and murder of an 8-year-old boy in Saharanpur, on Wednesday evening. The accused, identified as Zarina and her son Mustafa, confessed to kidnapping the boy, strangling him, and dumping his body in a canal 15 km away, police said on Thursday. According to SP City Vyom Bindal, the incident was a result of a public altercation that began a year ago when the victim Mohd Sarfaraz's mother, Nagma, and her family accused Mustafa's father, Ikram, of having an illicit relationship with a woman related to Nagma. Mustafa revealed that the death of his brother, Uvaish, six months ago-officially recorded as a suicide by hanging-was suspected by the family to be a murder orchestrated by Nagma's relatives. This strengthened their urge for revenge. On May 10, when Mustafa learned that Nagma was away in Laxar, he thought it to be an opportunity to target her son, Sarfaraz, a fifth-grade student from Mohalla Kothiwala in Sultanpur. He lured Sarfaraz to his home on the pretence of showing him a mobile phone. While Zarina guarded the gate, Mustafa suffocated the boy with a pillow and strangled him with a scarf. After confirming his death, Zarina gave him a plastic bag, and they packed the body into a larger bag. Mustafa then travelled 15 km by tempo to Salempur Gada, where he dumped the body in a canal near Ghaghrauli village, under the Behat police station jurisdiction. To avoid suspicion, he stayed at his maternal uncle's house for a few days. Nagma reported Sarfaraz's disappearance on May 11 after he did not return home from playing. The next day, his body was found in the canal, after which his family lodged a complaint against Mustafa for committing murder. Mustafa and Zarina were caught by police on Wednesday. Upon interrogation, the duo accepted the crime and elaborated on their motives and actions. The duo was presented before the court on Thursday, and following the court orders they were sent to jail, Bindal added....
