Woman, minor son assaulted;rescued from burning house
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 16 -- A woman and her minor son were rescued from a house that was set on fire allegedly by individuals linked to her estranged husband, in Pratapgarh's Hariharpur Kailaha village late Sunday evening, police said. The husband, identified as former gram pradhan Mohammad Raees, and his wife Vakila Begum had reportedly separated 10 years ago. A month ago, she returned to her husband's house and began living with her 16-year-old son, as per her complaint. The door of the house was locked from the inside when the two were attacked. She alleged that with the consent of her husband, some individuals, among whom were also the relatives of her husband, came to the house armed with logs and bars. They broke into the house, beat her and her son, and set the house on fire, the complaint read.
Locals spotted the fire and called 'Dial 112'. After about an hour of struggle, the woman and her son were rescued. In her complaint, Vakila has named seven persons. She also alleged that she tried reaching out to the police previously, but her calls for help went in vain. The police have detained four people from both sides and are interrogating them. 'CO (Lalganj) Ashutosh Mishra said there was a dispute between the husband and wife, and a case against the Sunday's incident has been lodged. htc...
