Woman, her paramour arrested for faking robbery in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 27 -- A woman from Phulpur and her lover were arrested on Friday after they faked a robbery at her own home to steal jewellery worth Rs.18 lakh.
The woman, Afreen Fatma, had filed a police complaint, claiming that two thieves entered her house at night, held her hostage, and escaped with gold and silver ornaments.
However, during probe, police found all the jewellery hidden inside her home. On being grilled, Afreen and her lover Mohammad Shahnawaz, admitted they had planned to flee together with the valuables. Afreen's husband, Mohammad Shahid, is a transporter who often travels to Kanpur. While he was away, Afreen and Shahnawaz, who she met during a visit to a village about 1.5 years ago, grew closer and began a secret relationship.
Police recovered all stolen items from under her bed. Call records confirmed several late-night calls between the two on the night of the alleged robbery. Shahnawaz was caught near Mahulia crossing just before he could return to take the jewellery. Both have been sent to jail....
