MEERUT, Oct. 22 -- By-election on Bulandshahr Sadar constituency is likely to be a triangle contest between the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the joint candidate of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Samajwadi Party (SP). With one Independent candidate withdrawing her name on the last day of the withdrawal of names on Monday, a total of 18 candidates are left in the fray.

The seat fell vacant after the demise of BJP MLA Virendra Sirohi. The BJP has fielded his wife Usha Sirohi to contest against BSP's Hazi Yunus.

He is the brother of BSP's former MLA Hazi Aleem who was murdered in his own house under mysterious circumstances in October 2018.
