Will revive wells to conserve water: Dhami
Dehradun, April 11 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions to renovate and revive decades-old wells in the state. For this, a comprehensive campaign will be run across the state, said a statement issued by the state government on Thursday. Dhami said, "Wells have been an important part of our civilisation. There are many ancient wells from cities to villages. Our effort is to bring them into use again, this will also promote water conservation efforts. Along with this, natural sources of clean water will also be preserved". Officials aware of the matter said that wells have been the source of sweet and clean water from villages to cities since ancient times. Wells are also important religiously and culturally in many places . But with the change in the water supply system over time, the use of wells kept decreasing, and at present in many places, wells have become victims of encroachment or neglect. But now, the state government is going to maintain the wells once again. For this, Dhami has given instructions to revive them by cleaning the wells extensively before the rains. Wells will also be revived by cleaning them through various government schemes in rural areas, said officials....
