Meerut, Aug. 9 -- Police in Shamli district have uncovered how a woman conspired with her lover to kill her husband, using code language to relay his location to the killers. Mohd Shahnawaz (28), a furniture craftsman from Jharakhedi village in Haryana's Sonipat district, was stabbed and shot dead on Khurgan Road, Kairana, on Thursday while riding with his wife, Maifreen, to attend a relative's wedding. The attack was carried out by four men on two motorcycles, who first rammed his bike and launched a knife assault before firing a shot. Shahnawaz died en route to hospital. Police say Maifreen had planned the killing with her lover, Tasavvur (Shahnawaz's cousin) after victim caught her speaking to him on the phone three days earlier and assaulted her. The couple prepared coded phrases two days before the murder to avoid suspicion. On the morning of the murder, Maifreen called Tasavvur immediately after leaving home, continuously updating him about Shahnawaz's location until attack took place. She later reported incident to the police herself, on her lover's advice, to avoid raising suspicion. Maifreen's repeated fainting spells and refusal to give a statement at the hospital raised the doubts of investigators. When police examined her call records, they discovered she had been in constant contact with Tasavvur for six months. CCTV footage from over 10 cameras in Kairana and surrounding areas captured the assailants on a motorcycle. Once police traced bike's number, they swiftly moved in on suspects. Late on Thursday night, police arrested Tasavvur, a resident of village Bhura (currently living in Sarurpur, Baghpat), and Shoaib of Bhura, Kairana. A knife and a firearm used in crime were recovered from them. Both are married. While the police were investigating the case, Maifreen managed to escape after learning about Tasavvur's arrest. Police teams are still searching for Maifreen and two other accused. SP Ramsevak Gautam confirmed that Tasavvur and Maifreen conspired to eliminate Shahnawaz, seeing him as an obstacle to their relationship. Tasavvur enlisted three accomplices to execute the plan.
