Weeks after wedding, man murders wife over domestic dispute
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 16 -- Ten days after the murder of 22-year-old Ravita, police arrested her husband, Rakesh, on Wednesday, revealing that he had allegedly planned and carried out the killing. Rakesh, 25, resident of Shahpur Pipalgaon village in Prayagraj, had married Ravita, the younger daughter of Kishanlal of Kathula village, a month and a half ago against his family's wishes.
Vinay Singh, SHO of the Airport police station, confirmed that Rakesh has been sent to jail following legal proceedings.
Rakesh's family had cut ties with him for marrying outside his community. Following the marriage, Ravita allegedly began insulting him in front of her family and threatened to leave him, according to police sources. Frustrated by the ongoing quarrels, Rakesh reportedly decided to murder her.
On October 5, Rakesh took Ravita to a fair in Rajrooppur but returned alone, claiming she had disappeared. On October 11, her mutilated body was found in a 20-foot-deep pit near the Sasurkhaderi River. Her mobile phone had been missing since her disappearance.
Police had placed Ravita's number under surveillance. Rakesh allegedly kept her phone after the murder and recently inserted his own SIM card. When the phone was switched on, authorities traced his number. Under interrogation, he admitted to strangling Ravita by the river after the fair and disposing of her body in the pit....
