Mussoorie, June 9 -- Amid increasing tourist influx, Mussoorie witnessed massive traffic snarls that caused immense inconvenience to both tourists and residents alike over the weekend. The persistent problem of traffic congestion, particularly aggravated by the increasing tourist numbers during peak season and weekends, is causing many regular visitors to explore quieter destinations. Over the weekend, tourists faced a harrowing experience, with the usual one-hour journey from Dehradun to Mussoorie stretching to over three hours. "We had come to relax in Mussoorie during weekend holidays, instead we were caught in a traffic snarls. Searching for parking space on Mall Road became another challenge," said Harpreet Singh, a tourist from Jalandhar, Punjab. The officials and residents are said that most of the traffic jams in town are due to narrow roads and heavy traffic that consistently choke several key areas, including Gandhi Chowk, Motilal Nehru Road, Picture Palace, and the stretch from Kingcraig to Zero Point. Library Chowk, a central node diverting traffic towards Mall Road, Kempty Falls, Company Garden, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, bears the major brunt of the town's congestion. Santosh Kunwar, in-charge Mussoorie police station said, "Over 6,000 to 7,000 tourist vehicles turn up during weekends , and managing that number with limited parking facilities becomes a challenge, forcing us to adopt 'out-of-the-box' measures like introducing a one-way plan to streamline traffic."...
