Weaves, traditional artforms come to life
LUCKNOW, Feb. 1 -- Traditional artforms and weaves of Lucknow and Kolkata came to life at the five-day Sanatkada Lucknow Festival on Saturday. The festival is underway at Safed Baradari, Ram Pal Singh Park and Amir-ud-Daula Library. The ramp resembled a historical pathway where threads, weaves, colours, and embellishments narrated the identities of both cities. Each ensemble shimmered not only with craftsmanship, but with the legacy of generations.
Kolkata's segment opened with Munmun Fab's presentation on the song 'Damadam Mast Qalandar,' showcasing the signature Kantha silk from Baro Bazaar. Its delicate embroidery highlighted a tradition where simplicity itself becomes beauty.
From Lucknow, the Breeze Collection brought the elegance of ghararas and dupattas to life, embodying the Nawabi aesthetic on the ramp. This was followed by Chanderi silk draped in the yellow hues of spring where the models walked gracefully to the tune of 'Dil-e-Nadaan Tujhe Hua Kya Hai'. This was followed by Kolkata's Shawl Story with Najibabadi silk, along with Love for the Loom's Tanda Jamdani.
Representing Lucknow, Nagma Chikankari's white chikankari dress appeared on the ramp with 'Laal Ishq,' creating a striking harmony of simplicity and grandeur....
