PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 7 -- The Allahabad high court on Wednesday fixed September 23, 2025 for the next hearing in connection with a matter wherein an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey has been sought of the Gyanvapi mosque's Wazukhana area, excluding the structure described by the Hindu side as a Shivlinga and the Muslim side as a fountain. Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal passed the order on a civil revision petition filed by Rakhi Singh, one of the plaintiffs before a Varanasi court. When the matter was taken up on Wednesday, the counsel for the parties submitted that it is still engaging the attention of the apex court and an interim order is operating till now. In view of this, the court fixed September 23 for the next hearing. The court observed, "It is informed that matter is engaging attention of Hon'ble Apex Court and interim order passed therein is still continuing. In view of said fact, the hearing of the matter is deferred. List this matter again on 23.09.2025 at 2:00 pm." The revision petition challenges a Varanasi district judge's order of October 2023. The Varanasi district judge's order had refused to direct the ASI to survey the Wuzukhana (ablution) area, except for the structure which the Hindu side calls a Shivling, while the Muslims describe it as a fountain....
