Waqf Boards halt renewal of panels for data upload
LUCKNOW, June 18 -- The Shia and Sunni Central Waqf Boards in Uttar Pradesh have temporarily halted the renewal of committees and appointment of mutawallis (caretakers) to prioritise the uploading of Waqf property records on the centralised UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995) in six months.
An order to this effect was issued by chairman of Shia Central Waqf Board Ali Zaidi on Tuesday. Chief executive officer Zeeshan Rizvi, administrative officer Hasan Raza and the entire staff were also present in the meeting held at Indira Bhawan on Tuesday. Only "very important" works related to Waqf security and preservation will be done in compliance with the orders of courts.
Earlier on June 14, the Sunni Central Waqf Board had issued similar orders. The decision was taken in a meeting which was presided over by chairman Zufar Farooqui. htc...
