LUCKNOW, Feb. 20 -- Cyber fraudsters hacked the WhatsApp accounts of three senior officials of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) within 24 hours and sent messages seeking money to people in their contact lists. The hackers first compromised the account of Prathamesh Kumar, vice-chairman, LDA, late on Wednesday night. Soon after, they hacked the account of Gyanendra Verma, additional secretary. On Thursday, Manoj Sagar, executive engineer, also reported that fraudsters had taken control of his WhatsApp account by placing a public story. The cybercriminals sent messages from the hacked accounts to several contacts, asking for urgent financial assistance. After discovering the breach, all three officials immediately posted public warnings. They urged people not to transfer money or respond to suspicious messages sent from their numbers. The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about cyber security among senior government officials. Authorities are expected to file complaints with the cyber crime cell to trace the accused and prevent further misuse.
