Dehradun, June 28 -- Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday urged youth to aspire beyond personal gain and embrace goals rooted in societal, national, and global welfare. Addressing students and faculty at the 156th Founders' Day celebration of Sherwood College in Nainital, he said, "Don't have a narrow or self-centred goal. Aspire for the nation, for society, and for humanity. History only remembers those who gave back to society." "We must subscribe to nationalism without qualification. Nation always comes first", he said Stressing the critical role of education in building a democratic and equitable society, Dhankhar described education as "a gift of God" and "a great equaliser." He called access to quality education a privilege in a country of 1.4 billion people, adding that education alone can dismantle inequities and injustice. Speaking to parents, he advised against imposing career goals on children. "Do not decide your child's path. If you do, everyone will chase money or power-where then will we find scientists, astronomers, or visionaries?" he said. On India's global trajectory, the Vice President said the country is no longer a nation with mere potential but one on a continuous, exponential rise. "The past decade has been one of rapid development, with Bharat emerging as the fastest-growing major economy and a rising global power. Viksit Bharat is not a dream-it is our destination," he said. Dhankhar paid tribute to the legacy of Sherwood College alumni, including Major Som Nath Sharma, India's first Param Vir Chakra awardee, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and actor Amitabh Bachchan. "Their achievements are your heritage-and their legacy, your responsibility," he told the students. Highlighting India's demographic advantage, he said, "India's median age is 28-ten years younger than China and the US. Sixty-five per cent of our population is under 35. The world looks to India not just for economic or scientific rise, but also for its youth." He emphasised embracing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain to stay relevant. "The world is changing fast. We must not be overtaken by change-we must shape it," he said, reiterating India's G-20 vision of "One Earth, One Family, One Future," he further added in his address....
