VARANASI, June 29 -- With the month of Moharram now in progress and Shravan set to begin on July 11, Varanasi Police have rolled out a detailed plan to maintain law and order during the religious events. Commissioner of police (CP) Mohit Agarwal, while chairing a peace committee meeting on Saturday, issued specific instructions to religious leaders and event organisers. The meeting was attended by Taziadars, Kanwad Sangh office bearers, and prominent members of the city. The CP stated that no new traditions will be introduced, and all Tazia processions must follow traditional routes with pre-approved height and size limits. "Arms, weapons, and provocative slogans will not be allowed. Organisers must deploy 20 volunteers with each procession and will be held responsible in case of any disturbance," CP Mohit Agarwal said. All Tazia processions must be videographed and monitored through CCTV cameras. Organisers are required to post volunteers at Tazia sites and install cameras wherever possible. Police will be deployed in a box formation, with quick response teams (QRTs) stationed at sensitive points. Monitoring will be conducted to track anti-social elements and those spreading misinformation. With Shravan starting July 11, the CP directed that all necessary arrangements at Shiva temples be completed in advance, including devotee safety, crowd control, and access to drinking water. For the Kanwar Yatra, the CP instructed that the height of chariots and DJ setups must stay within permitted limits. Sound systems must adhere to decibel norms, and vulgar, filthy, or obscene songs are banned. DJ operators will be held accountable for any violations. Organisers of Kanwad Seva Camps have been asked to arrange for drinking water, first aid, CCTV cameras, and ensure police verification of all volunteers. A traffic route diversion plan will be implemented to manage flow during the events. The police will also monitor social media platforms, with warnings of strict action against those spreading false or provocative content....
