VARANASI, Sept. 30 -- The Varanasi city unit of the Congress party on Monday condemned BJP spokesperson Printu Mahadev for allegedly threatening to kill senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. A meeting of the city unit, chaired by Raghavendra Choubey, passed a resolution condemning the statement and called on the Centre to ensure foolproof security for Gandhi. Choubey said, "Rahul Gandhi is not only the leader of the Congress Party but also the voice of the people of India. This type of threat to him is a direct attack on democratic values. We demand that our leader, Rahul Gandhi, should be provided with the best possible security cover, which is essential for his safety." Congress leaders said that ensuring the safety of Rahul Gandhi and other parliamentarians is the government's responsibility.
