VARANASI, Nov. 2 -- The Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) House met in the Town Hall, under the chairmanship of the mayor, on Saturday. The mayor, Ashok Tiwari, told the House that after Dev Deepawali, a campaign titled "100 Days, 100 Wards, Varanasi Nagar Nigam at Your Doorstep" will be launched. Under this campaign, the Mayor, area corporators, and all Municipal Corporation officials will go door-to-door in the wards, listening to problems and suggestions, and address them as necessary. In the meeting, the House unanimously passed the revised budget of Rs 1575.86 crore for the financial year 2025-26. The budget was presented by deputy chairman Narsingh Das. The VNN's basic budget has been increased from Rs.1,281.33 crore to Rs.1,324.46 crore, and the Jalkal budget from Rs.248.05 crore to Rs.251.40 cr. Partial increases have been made in various municipal budgets, including property tax from Rs.110 crore to Rs.125 crore. The shopkeeper regularisation fee has been increased from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.10 lakh. For the first time, a provision of Rs 5 crore has been made under the Metropolitan Public Health Surveillance Unit as a new head. The shop security deposit head has been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Similarly, under the expenditure head, the office electricity bill has been increased from Rs 90 lakh to Rs 3 crore.
