Visit of Afghanistan foreign minister to Taj Mahal cancelled
AGRA, Oct. 13 -- The planned visit of Afghanistan's foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to the Taj Mahal, Agra, on Sunday was cancelled at the last moment, officials confirmed, without providing a reason.
Muttaqi was scheduled to spend over an hour at the monument before returning to Delhi after having lunch at a star-category hotel near the Taj Mahal.
"We came to know about the cancellation of visit early in day after directions came from Delhi," deputy commissioner of police, Sonam Kumar, said.
A senior conservation assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) posted at the monument also confirmed the visit was called off but said no explanation was provided for the sudden change.
The Afghan minister had arrived in New Delhi on Thursday and visited Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur district on Saturday....
