Villagers block highway after rape accused's father dies of suspected poisoning; 40 booked
PRAYAGRAJ, June 7 -- Angered by the death of the rape accused's father, villagers and family members blocked the Prayagraj-Kanpur National Highway on Friday by placing the body on the road. They demanded the arrest of those allegedly responsible for poisoning him. Tensions escalated when agitated family members misbehaved with the additional superintendent of police (ASP) who had arrived to clear the roadblock. A case has been registered against 40 people at the Saini police station in Kaushambi.
It may be mentioned that on May 28, a man accused a youth from his neighbourhood, under Saini police station area, of raping his eight-year-old daughter. Based on the complaint filed by the victim's father, police registered a case and booked the accused the same day.
On Wednesday afternoon (June 4), the 45-year-old father of the rape accused died after allegedly consuming poison under suspicious circumstances.
Before his death, family members and villagers took him to Saini police station in a critical condition, where they created a ruckus, accusing the village head, his father, brother, relatives, and the victim's father of poisoning him. Chaos continued for about an hour at the Sirathu community health centre (CHC) as well. Police later registered a case against all five accused and sent the body for postmortem.
On Thursday evening (June 5), around 3:15 pm, the family members brought the body from the postmortem house to the village and blocked the Prayagraj-Kanpur national highway by placing the body in the middle of the road. When police personnel arrived to clear the blockade, they were allegedly misbehaved by the agitated family members of the deceased.
Around 15 police personnel, including Saini police station SHO Brijesh Karvariya, Sirathu police outpost in-charge Nitesh Kumar Tripathi, Ajuha police outpost in-charge Jitendra Singh, and members of ASP's security team were injured during the incident. The agitated crowd also misbehaved with additional superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Following the incident, a case was registered against 40 people, including the district unit president of Savarna Sena Abhishek Pandey for misbehaving with police personnel. The FIR has been filed under 15 sections. Of the total 40 accused, 10 have been named, while the remaining are unidentified. So far, police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case.
According to superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Kumar, a case has been registered against 10 named and 30 unidentified people for blocking the highway and obstructing police personnel....
