LUCKNOW, Nov. 10 -- Veteran journalists discussed core values of journalism -- truth, integrity, and social responsibility -as they reflected on life and legacy of senior journalist and editor Naveen Joshi on the launch of a book titled 'Naveen Dhun' in Lucknow on Sunday. Senior journalist Qamar Waheed Naqvi was the chief guest, while senior journalist and author Mrinal Pandey wrote the foreword. Naqvi, while sharing his views on journalism, said that in today's era of information, it's crucial to understand its true value and veracity. "It's a fundamental lesson that information that isn't true has only two underlying purposes -- to deceive and to mislead. The fundamental function of journalism is to provide information. However, reporting driven by a journalist's own ideology or external circumstances is detrimental to society. This can be illustrated by an example from Naveen Joshi's book," he said. Joshi remarked that journalism carries both good and evil, but every editor must define their own moral boundary. Quoting Dushyant Kumar, he said, "Every editor has a margin, and what you write on that margin matters." He added that his team sought to explore the darker corners of society often ignored by mainstream journalism. Published by Grey Parrot Publishers and edited by journalist and author Shikha S, the book shares the experiences of more than 30 journalists. Shikha S said the book proves that "goodness can take you far," while publisher Avinash Chandra noted it is the first in a series on living Hindi editors who defied convention.
