Vedanta plant blast toll rises to 23: Officials
Raipur, April 19 -- The toll from the explosion at a Vedanta Ltd power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district has risen to 23, after two more injured workers died during treatment on Saturday, officials said. Twelve others remain hospitalised, with three in critical condition.
Sakti superintendent of police Prafull Thakur said the two latest victims succumbed to severe burn injuries at separate hospitals. They were identified as Subrata Kumar Jana from West Bengal's Medinipur and Upendra Sah from Jharkhand's Garhwa. Both had suffered around 90% burns in the incident.
The blast occurred on April 14 at the plant in Singhitarai village when a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam from the boiler to the turbine exploded, leaving several workers critically injured. Four workers died on the spot, while others succumbed over the following days during treatment. Among the deceased are seven workers from West Bengal, five from Chhattisgarh, four from Jharkhand, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two each from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh....
