Varanasi's Kabeer wins a thriller in state 6 ball snooker c'ship
LUCKNOW, Aug. 27 -- Varanasi's Kabeer notched up a sensational 4-3 win over spirited and local challenger Sami Irfan to hog the limelight on Day Two of the Raja Ram Kumar Bhargava Memorial 6 Red State Snooker Championship at Prayagraj on Tuesday. Lucknow's Aman Khan too scored a thrilling 4-3 win over Varanasi's Piyush Khattar in the first match of the day.
The match between Kabeer and Irfan was a treat to watch. Kabeer took on his opponentIrfan with a stride. In the first frame both the players initially kept each other in check before Kabeer Kabeer potted an elegant green and took away the frame from his opponent.
But in the frame, Irfan restrained Kabeer to a total of 20 and levelled the score 1-1 before further extending his lead to 2-1 in the third frame. After a short break when Kabeer came back to the table, he was absolutely focused from the very first shot and played carefully to keep Irfan away from the table and made a break of 40 making an impressive comeback (2-all).
The next frame again was a smooth one for him where he scored 49 points (3-2). The sixth frame again saw a shift in the game when Irfan played excellent shots on blue, pink and black and took the match to a decider (3-all), but this time Kabeer kept his cool and stole the show by potting a long yellow and from there he cleared the table to win the match by 4-3. In other matches of the day, Abhinav Gupta (Prayagraj) defeated Nitesh Narsinghani (Varanasi) 4-0, Ashish Gupta (Lucknow) lost to Abhishek Kesarwani (Prayagraj) 1-4, Ahmad Laraib (Lucknow) defeated Shreyas Jaiswal (Prayagraj) 4-0. Puneet Mishra (Varanasi) beat Divyansh Mishra (Lucknow) (4-3) and Karan Apurva (Prayagraj) defeated Manoj K Singh (Meerut) 4-2.
