Van driver, accused of sexually assaulting 4-yr-old girl, arrested
LUCKNOW, July 20 -- A 25-year-old school van driver was arrested by Indira Nagar police on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl, authorities said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Arif, has also been accused of threatening the girl and her mother using caste-based slurs, according to a release issued by the police on Saturday.
The accused was arrested near Kalyan Apartment, deputy commissioner of police (east) Shashank Singh said.
The incident came to light after the girl's mother filed a complaint on July 17, alleging that despite informing the school, no action was taken against the accused. School manager Sandeep Kumar was named in the FIR for alleged negligence and failing to act on the complaint, the release said.
"We have arrested the main accused. We are now checking the role of the school manager and further action will be based on the evidence being collected," DCP Singh said.
The accused has been booked under sections 65(2), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), sections 5(m)/6 of the POCSO Act, and sections 3(2)(v) and 3(2)(v-a) of the SC/ST Act.
A police team led by SHO Sunil Kumar Tiwari and comprising sub-inspector Rajesh Yadav and other officials arrested the accused on the orders of Ghazipur ACP Devendra Singh. Further investigation is underway....
