Uttarakhand HC orders SIT investigation into Banbhulpura violence victim's death
Dehradun, June 19 -- The Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday ordered formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the death of Faim, who was killed during Banbhulpura violence in Haldwani on February 8 last year. The court said it will monitor the progress of the investigation.
While hearing a petition filed by Faim's brother Parvez, the division bench of chief justice G Narender and justice Alok Mahra ordered the government to form a SIT to investigate the death of Faim and said that it will monitor the probe, said Avtar Singh Rawat, counsel of the petitioner..
Parvez had filed a petition in the HC demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the matter. The petition stated that the court of chief judicial magistrate of Nainital on May 6, 2024, directed the police to register a case in the matter against unknown persons and investigate it. On June 4, the HC directed the police to submit a report in the matter.
Rawat said that the investigation report, which was filed on Wednesday, was the same as before, on which the court expressed displeasure and ordered an SIT investigation of the entire case.
"The report, which the court had sought from the DGP Uttarakhand, was the same report which was earlier filed in the court by the circle officer Haldwani. After hearing the case today, the court also ordered the transfer of the police officer posted at that time, who had done the investigation into the matter, out of Nainital district," he said.
He said Faim's brother alleged that he was not killed in the violence but was murdered by some people. He had succumbed to bullet injuries during the Banbhulpura violence....
