Dehradun, July 22 -- The Uttarakhand Congress Mahila Morcha workers on Monday took out a march towards the Raj Bhawan to protest against the alleged rising crimes against women in the state. However, the protesters, led by state Congress women wing president Jyoti Rautela, were stopped by police at Hathibarkala. As the protesters tried to cross the barricades, a clash broke out between them and police. The protesters then staged a sit-in at the site, following which they were detained and taken to the police lines in a police vehicle. They were released later in the day. Rautela said, "There has been a surge in incidents of murder, rape of minors, and other heinous crimes. These incidents have not only violated the dignity of women but have also tarnished the image of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand." She said that 1,822 cases of rape have been registered across the state in the last three years, and 318 bodies of unidentified women have been recovered, of which only 87 have been identified. htc...
