Uttar Pradesh girls claim bronze medal in national handball c'ship
LUCKNOW, May 5 -- Uttar Pradesh team performed well in the 39th National Sub-Junior Girls Handball Championship, winning bronze medal along with Delhi's Yashasvi Handball Academy at Mandya in Karnataka on Sunday. Uttar Pradesh lost to Gujarat by 22-32 in the semi-finals. Uttar Pradesh entered the last four by defeating Himachal Pradesh 19-17 in the quarterfinals, and Aryavart Sports Academy 23-10 in the pre-quarter finals.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) defeated SSB 2-0 to win the 1st Bula Ganguli Memorial Hockey Tournament, at the National College Ground here on Sunday. Divya and Manisha Patel scored a goal each for SAI. It was ding-dong battle between the two sides till the 50th minute of play as none could break the defense wall of each other. Divya opened the account in the 54th minute (1-0) before Manisha adding one more in the 57th minute. Rajani Bala (player of the tournament), Ashik Verma (best goalkeeper), Priti Singh (best half-back) and Sonika Rawat (best forward) were given cash awards.
Cricket Association Lucknow on Sunday announced that an Under-14 tournament in memory of Anshul Alok will be played from May 15. The last date of entry is May 10. Clubs or academies interested in participating can submit their entry forms at the CAL office. Those wishing to enter more than one team can do so by providing the team names. CAL secretary, KM Khan informed that clubs or academies, who are unable to form a complete team, can provide the names of players to the association's office, and a team will be formed for them.
To celebrate the World Athletics Day on May 7, Lucknow District Athletics Association will be holding a javelin throw competition, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here. The selection of the junior athletics team of Lucknow will also be held.
LDAA's secretary, BR Varun said that women and men athletes of all age groups can participate in the javelin throw competition, schedule to start at 8.00 in the morning. He also said that the athletes willing to participate in the trials for the selection of Lucknow team should be below 20 years of age but born between 2006 and 2009.
