Uttar Pradesh continue winning streak in Women's U19 One Day Trophy
LUCKNOW, Dec. 16 -- Spirited Uttar Pradesh continued their winning streak in the Women's Under-19 One Day Trophy, scripting a facile five-wicket win over Goa in their Elite Group A encounter, at the Infipro Sports Club Ground in Vadodara on Monday.
Chasing Goa's 138 runs, Uttar Pradesh romped home in 28.1 overs, losing five wickets. Despite losing three quick wickets for just 31 in 7.4 overs, Uttar Pradesh achieved the target at ease. Keeper-batter Saanvi Bhatia played a sheet anchor role, striking an unbeaten 42 in 50 balls with the help of six hits to the fence.
She along with skipper Khushi Tyagi added 61 runs for the fifth wicket. Before being bowled by Usma, stylish Tyagi made 33 in 44 balls with the help of four hits to the fence. Bharti Singh remained unbeaten on four.
Opener Katyani struck 47-ball 29 laced with four hits to the fence, but Priyanshi Yadav (3), Sashi Balan (10) and Riya Bhati (0) departed in quick succession when Uttar Pradesh began the run chase. Usma and Angel D'Costa shared four wickets between them for Goa.
Earlier, Goa never got the going easy, losing wickets on regular intervals before being reduced to 6/95 in 28.1 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Skipper and opener Harshita Yadav struck the highest 77 in 96 balls with the help of 11 boundaries before being caught and bowled by Siddhi Mishra.
Sanchita S made 12, whereas eight other batters couldn't touch the double-figure mark before being bowled out in 37.1 overs. It was pacer Manisha Chaudhary, who opened the flood gate for Uttar Pradesh with 2/37 early in the game. Thereafter, Khushi Tyagi and Siddhi Mishra completed the rout, sharing six wickets between them. Whereas Tyagi took 3/13, Mishra bagged 3/19. Bharti Singh claimed 1/21.
India all-rounder Axar Patel was on Monday ruled out of the remaining two T20 Internationals against South Africa due to illness with the BCCI's selection committee naming Shahbaz Ahmed as his replacement.
Axar had also missed the third T20I in Dharamsala on Sunday with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav being included in the playing XI.India went on to defeat South Africa by seven wickets in a low-scoring match to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The last two games of the five-match series will be played in Lucknow and Ahmedabad on Wednesday and Friday respectively....
