India, Oct. 2 -- Actor Sanjana Sanghi's work often takes her around the world, but festival season always draws her back to her hometown, Delhi. The 29-year-old says Dussehra and Diwali are incomplete without the memories of her childhood celebrations in the Capital. "Some of my most vivid memories are going for Ramlila with my grandparents to the Sri Ram Centre in central Delhi," she recalls. Another highlight was the Diwali melas: "They would have food stalls, games, and our friends would come along. The fun was all the more because our parents would let us stay out a little late. And of course, watching the burning of Raavan and holding on to the message of good over evil was a ritual every year." For Sanghi, Delhi's festive season is defined by its cultural mix. "There are Durga Puja pandals, Ramlilas in every corner, and this amalgamation is what I love most. I am half Gujarati, so garba with my naani was a big part of my growing up. At the same time, I had many Bengali friends, and celebrating Pujo with them in CR Park felt like a true celebration of secularism." Having made Mumbai her base, Sanghi draws parallels between the two cities. "In Mumbai, I have immersed myself in the Ganpati festivities, followed by Navratri and Diwali. The variety and spirit of togetherness are similar. Delhi is where I grew up and my family is, but Mumbai is my chosen family," she ends....
