LUCKNOW, June 9 -- Open mind, clear vision, and sound judgement are the three essential qualities of an outstanding officer, said Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna while addressing the 91st batch of 34 Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers. He added that the knowledge gained during training in forensic science, cybercrime, surveillance, and law would be crucial in advancing their careers. He emphasised that officers should rely on their judgement and decision-making skills, especially when training and real-life field situations appear contradictory. A police officer must set an example to earn the respect of subordinates and lead the force effectively, he said. "A successful officer must combine knowledge, skill, and attitude-and apply them with a positive mindset," he added. The batch includes 34 deputy superintendents of police (DySP)-25 men and 9 women. Of them, 33 are from Uttar Pradesh and one from Madhya Pradesh. Their training began on May 20, 2024, at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Police Academy, Moradabad, and concluded on June 4, 2025. The passing out parade was held on June 6. DGP Krishna underlined that briefing in law and order situations is not only essential but an art. He directed all trainee officers to ensure thorough briefings before every law and order duty. Officers must assess field situations intelligently, listen to subordinates, and take informed decisions. He stressed the need to prepare the force for current realities and future challenges. The focus areas of modern policing, he said, are swift and quality resolution of citizen grievances and combating cybercrime. He expressed confidence that the officers would help make UP Police a national leader in cybercrime response within a year. During district training, officers should learn from all levels of police personnel-from constables to senior ranks-and address their queries, he advised. Krishna urged the new PPS officers to continuously enhance their skills and stay purpose-driven. They should apply their vision in their jurisdictions and focus on personnel management during practical assignments. DG Training Tilottama Verma and other senior officers were also present on the occasion....
