UPT20 League boosts careers on and off the cricket field
LUCKNOW, Sept. 1 -- The ongoing UPTwenty20 League is not only giving a stage to young cricketers, umpires, scorers and referees from Uttar Pradesh, but is also benefiting local commentators like Anurag Srivastava, who shares the panel with former India wicket-keeper Saba Karim.
An administrative officer with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, Srivastava is a former India under-19 cricketer. "Cricket is my passion and after news reading for Doordarshan, I chose commentary and have been doing it for many years," he said.
Srivastava represented India under-19 against Australia and the West Indies between 1982 and 1985. He was also part of the Ranji Trophy squad but missed playing due to injury. In the series against West Indies, he claimed 17 wickets as an off-spinner. Before the UPT20 League, the 58-year-old had already commentated in several Test matches and ODIs for All India Radio and Doordarshan.
"This league is a strong platform for youngsters to showcase their talent and draw the attention of IPL franchises. Last season, over a dozen cricketers from Uttar Pradesh went on to play for different IPL teams," he said....
