PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 29 -- A first information report (FIR) has been lodged against 48 individuals, including former deputy secretary of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board ( UPSESSB) Naval Kishore and three district inspectors of schools (DIoS) with the Vigilance Establishment here in connection with the appointment of teachers by a fake recruitment panel in non-government-aided secondary schools in Sambhal, Balrampur and Muzaffarnagar districts. As per the FIR lodged on September 23 by vigilance inspector Havaldar Singh Yadav, there was widespread fraud in the appointments and over Rs 36 lakh of government funds were misappropriated in the name of salaries. In this case, the then DIoS of Amroha Gajendra Kumar, and two other DIoS Govind Ram and Manoj Kumar Arya, have also been booked, along with the managers of several schools. The fraudulent appointments were exposed after Amit Kumar Srivastava and Shilpi Kesari filed a petition in the Allahabad high court in 2023. Based on the high court's order of May 29, 2023, additional chief secretary Deepak Kumar ordered a vigilance investigation on October 13.
