LUCKNOW, June 20 -- The Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association has directed all the district Olympic associations of the state to organize extensive sports events on Monday to commemorate Olympic Day. UPOA's secretary, Anandeshwar Pandey in a letter to all the district units has appealed that they should see this day not only as an event, but as an opportunity to spread the culture of sports and Olympic values. "The day should be celebrated with more enthusiasm and dignity with the participation of more and more players, school children, parents and common citizens," he states. On the Olympic Day, events will be organized with the theme of "move, learn, discover together for a better world ." He further said that the aim of Olympic Day, celebrated every year on June is to increase awareness towards sports and also to inspire youth and citizens towards physical activity, discipline and Olympic values. He said that during this period, awareness rallies and activities including various types of sports activities are planned to be organized in all the districts. Use of special T-shirts (including Olympic Day, Olympic rings and UP Olympic Association logo) and banners will be mandatory for the event. The UPOA has also called for celebrating this day as a symbol of the energy of sports, awareness towards health and positive participation of youth.
