UPCC chief alleges house arrest, calls govt 'dictatorship'
LUCKNOW, Sept. 12 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai alleged he was put under house arrest and termed the act a "dictatorship of the government."
Rai added that the police arrived at his house late Wednesday night and did not allow him to leave for the press conference he had called on Thursday.
"It's a dictatorship. The government is torturing Congress leaders in several parts of the state," Rai said.
UP Congress had announced a protest against PM Modi, who visited Varanasi for a bilateral dialogue with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
In Prayagraj, dozens of Congress leaders and activists from city as well as rural areas of the districts were put under house arrest on Wednesday night. Some leaders were taken to the police station at night and after questioning them were released on assurance that they would not leave their homes....
