LUCKNOW, Nov. 7 -- The winning streak of defending champions Uttar Pradesh came to an end on Thursday as they went down fighting to spirited Delhi by five wickets in their pre-quarterfinal match of the Women's Under-19 T20 Trophy in Kolkata. Chasing Uttar Pradesh's 129 runs, Delhi romped home with two balls to spare after losing five wickets. A 42-run fifth wicket partnership between Purva and Archana made things easy at the end. Though Uttar Pradesh bowlers got Delhi's opener Aarna Dudeja (2) run out early in the game with scoreboard reading just 11 in the third over and once reduced the rivals for 77/4 in 14.2 overs, Purva and Archana consolidated the run-chase. Whereas Purva scored 23-ball 29 with the help of three boundaries and a six, Archana remained unbeaten on 18, which came off 11 balls with the help of one boundary and a six. Samira Raghav also made unbeaten 11, whereas Nishika Singh (19), Tanishqa Singh (25) and Nidhi Mahto (22) were the other main run getters. Janvi Baliyan took 2/17, whereas manisha Chaudhary and Bharti Singh shared two wickets between them for Uttar Pradesh. In fact, Uttar Pradesh batters should own the blame of the loss as they failed to make use of the placid turf of the Aditya Academy Ground and could score 129/7 despite having a good start while batting first after winning the toss. Both openers Riya Bhati (23, 15b, 5x4) and Shashi Balan (20, 26b, 2x4) added 39 runs in five overs before Bhati was caught by Nishika Singh off Purva. And thereafter, only Bharti Singh and Priyanshi Yadav could impress with willow, scoring good runs. Whereas Bharti struck 31-ball 42 with the help of seven hits to the fence, Priyanshi made 23 in 24 balls with the help of three boundaries. Captain and keeper Sanvi Bhatia was caught by Nishika Singh off Samaira Raghav on duck, whereas Supriya Arela and Chandani Sharma scored one run each. For Delhi, Mahi Chauhan, Sumiti Soni and Samaira Raghav shared six wickets between them. Now after this, Uttar Pradesh women's would be competing in the Under-19 One Day Trophy in December when the league matches take place at Vadodara. UP will begin their campaign with a league match in Elite Group A against Tamil Nadu on December 13, followed by their match against Goa on December 15, against Uttarakhand on December 17, against Pondicherry on December 19 and Maharashtra on December 21....
