UP woman 'poisoned' to death in U'khand over dowry demand
Meerut, July 13 -- In an alleged dowry case, a woman from Uttar Pradesh's Rampur was poisoned to death by her live-in partner in Uttarakhand's Kashipur, police officials in UP suspected.
Rampur police have filed a murder case against her partner and six members of his family following a complaint by the woman's sister, who alleged that the man's family had demanded Rs 25 lakh as dowry from them.
According to police, the woman was a native of Rampur and employed at a factory in Kashipur, where she met Rinku, who hails from Sonakpur Patti.
As per the FIR, Rinku demanded Rs.25 lakh for him to marry the woman. When the woman's family was unable to meet the demand, Rinku allegedly refused to marry her. On July 8, the woman called her family here and told them that Rinku had finally agreed to marry her and was taking her to a temple for the ceremony. However, just a short while later, she made another phone call to her sister, sounding alarmed. She told her that she was severely unwell after eating 'prasad' that Rinku gave her.
Based on the sister's complaint, the police registered a case of murder on Friday against Rinku and six of his family members-his mother Ramwati, father Chandrapal, sisters Meera and Sushma, and brother Jagat.
Circle officer (Civil Lines, Kashipur) Kuldeep Gupta confirmed the registration of the case. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and gather forensic evidence."...
