UP spinners design teams second win in Women's U-19 T20 Trophy
LUCKNOW, Oct. 28 -- Spinners continued to hog limelight even on Monday as defending champions Uttar Pradesh notched up their second consecutive win in the Women's Under-19 T20 Trophy, this time crushing Odisha by nine wickets, at the Sector 10 BSP Cricket Stadium in Bhilai. On Sunday, they had a convincing 47-run win over hosts Madhya Pradesh in their opening league encounter of the Elite Group B.
All three leg spinners Khushi Tyagi (3/12), Chandani Sharma (3/13) and Bharti Singh (2/13) came up with some stunning display of slow bowling, ripping through Odisha innings after the rivals chose to bat first after winning the toss and bundled them out for paltry 57 in 18.2 overs. Left-arm orthodox spinner Janvi Baliyan too bagged 2/6 in her three overs.
However, the 58-run target remained just a formality for a spirited Uttar Pradesh as Riya Bhati (29, 39b, 3x4) and Shashi Balan (15, 19b, 3x4) took the side home without being separated in 12.5 overs. Nisha Verma was the only batter to go after scoring eight runs.
Full marks to Uttar Pradesh spinners, who created a web around Odisha batters, especially after losing the wicket of Archana Rout (2), who was bowled by Tyagi within the Powerplay earlier. The wicket however, opened the flood gate for other bowlers like Sharma and Singh, who too didn't allow Odisha batters to free their arms.
Anushka Mohanty remained the only batter, who could touch the double figure mark, as she made run-a-ball 15, which contained two hits to the fence. Now, Uttar Pradesh, who lead the table with eight points, will take on Saurashtra in their next league match on Wednesday....
