LUCKNOW, Nov. 12 -- Skipper Sameer Rizvi once again proved his prowess with the willow in the white ball cricket, hitting an unbeaten century to help spirited Uttar Pradesh continue their winning streak in the Men's U23 State A Trophy, notching up a thrilling three-wicket win against Hyderabad in Jaipur on Tuesday. Right-hander Rizvi smacked 107 in 106 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and four sixes as Uttar Pradesh romped home in 47.1 overs while chasing Hyderabad's 233 at the Anantam Ground. In fact, Uttar Pradesh were tottering at 157/7 at one stage, but Rizvi along with Kartik Yadav (16, 28b) added unbeaten 67-run to win the second match of the season in as many matches. The win, however, helped Uttar Pradesh race to second spot behind Tamil Nadu (8 pts) in Elite Group D. Now, they take on Himachal Pradesh on Saturday at the KL Saini Stadium. It was a well-deserved victory for Uttar Pradesh after notching up a convincing seven-wicket win over favourites Karnataka in the season opener and that too after chasing down 300 plus runs in the match. On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh lost three quick wickets for just 40 on the board in the thirteenth over, but a 77-run fourth-wicket stand between Rituraj Sharma and Rizvi raised hopes. Sharma departed in the 25th over after being caught by Harshit Choudhary off Saketh Dhatrak after scoring 53-ball 45 with the help of five boundaries and a six. It almost dashed UP's hopes of a comeback at this moment, but Rizvi, who remained the second highest run getter with 491 runs, including five half centuries in this year's UPT20 League, kept stroking the ball nicely all-around the ground with sheer power and grit. Araav Baliyan (50, keeper-batter Chaitanya Parashar (18, 30b, 1x4), Ritik Vatsa (4) and even Shubham Mishra (0) departed in quick succession, but both Rizvi and Yadav held their nerves under control and Yadav played a perfect second fiddle, giving most of the opportunities of hitting the ball to Rizvi, who made it possible in style. Earlier, left arm medium pacer Abdul Rehman set the tone for Uttar Pradesh, bagging 4/60 to get Hyderabad out for 233 in 49.2 overs while batting first after winning the toss. He was well supported by slow left-arm spinner Kartik Yadav (2/34) and Ritik Vats (2/41). Vijay Kumar and Shubham Mishra shared two wickets between them. For Hyderabad, the going was never easy as they kept losing wickets on regular intervals before being reduced to 86/3 as Kartik Yadav removed two top order batters like Aman Rao (50, 50b, 7x4, 1x6) and captain Aravelly Avanish (22, 22b, 4x4) after Rehman had the wicket of opener Harshit Choudhary (5). Though batters like Dheeraj Goud (25, 36b, 3x4) and Sarthak Bhardwaj (40, 55b, 2x4, 1x6) tried their best to repair the innings, to no avail as all other batters too could make little contributions to the total....
